Arizona Purple (Above) vs. Weidemeyer's Admiral (Below)
L. a. arizonensis flies in sympatry with L. weidemeyeri angustifascia along Oak Creek Canyon, Yavapai County, AZ. Although the larvae are similar, you can see subtle differences in the orange vs. tan coloration near the thoracic horns. Also, those horns are longer on arizonensis than angustifascia for third, fourth, and fifth instars.
