Murdock Mountain represents almost a western extension of Utah's Uinta Mountains.  At an elevation of over 11,500 feet, some of the unique Arctic-Alpine butterflies one can find here in July are the western white, arctic fritillary, mormon fritillary, rockslide checkerspot, lustrous copper, arctic blue, magdalena alpine, melissa arctic, and grizzled skipper.
