This is an alfalfa field in Southern Idaho near Malad City. Always be careful to obey private property signs when looking for butterflies near alfalfa fields. Commercial Alfalfa supports populations of the alfalfa butterfly as well as the yellow sulfphur. Other species of butterflies that can be found in alfalfa fields, depending upon the time of year, include the monarch, melissa blue, common hairstreak, checkered skipper, common sootywing, sandhill skipper, themistocles skipper, juba skipper, painted lady, west coast lady, common ringlet, and large wood nymph.
