This is the larval host plant of many butterflies and skippers including the pale swallowtail (Papilio eurymedon), California tortoiseshell (Nymphalis californica), hedgerow hairstreak (Satyrium saepium provo), spring azure (Celastrina ladon echo), brown elfin (Incisalia augustinus annettae), and pacuvius duskywing (Erynnis pacuvius lilius).
