Cercyonis meadi caterpillars
This photo shows young mead's wood nymph caterpillars feeding on wheat grass in a 32 ounce pot. I created a cage extension to keep predators out. Rearing Cercyonis caterpillars can be a fun winter project.

Using Paint Strainers on Potted Plants
This is a five gallon potted plant of Penstemon spp. with Euphydryas anicia caterpillars. Using paint strainers can be ideal for protecting caterpillars from their environment. http://low.es/ykTWfB

Erebia magdalena Caterpillars on Potted Grass
Because Magdalena Alpine young first instars can easily escape the screened cage extension shown in the presentation at the top of this web page, I revised the design to replace screen with thin tricot sheer so that caterpillars could not escape. Germinating Pseudoroegneria spicata for Neominois ridingsi
Because first instar caterpillars of some subspecies of the ridings' satyr (Neominois ridingsi) will diapause, one method to get them to bypass diapause and initiate feeding immediately is to provide them with seedling larval host grasses. This is a germinating tray of Pseudoroegneria spicata; a natural host of Neominois wyomingo.
